First dates are always a minefield. Where do you go? What do you do? Do you dress smart? Or do you wear those killer Nike trainers you bought last week? In short, first dates are a myriad of maybes designed to make meeting that new love interest as difficult as possible. Of course, the idea of the perfect first date has been rammed down our necks by TV shows and films – something you’re unlikely to be able to recreate on a shoestring budget.

Amid all the dating woes and first date horror stories however, there is one thing that rings true. I’m going to court controversy a little bit here, but going for dinner on a first date is never a good idea.
