There are few places more shallow than the fashion industry. It’s built on beauty, or more accurately, on what we’re told beauty should be; which, more often than not, means being stick-thin. Sadly, this mentality meant Iskra Lawrence was dropped by her agency because apparently her hips were too big.
After being shown the door, the stunning model became even more determined to bounce back and become a success in the industry.
Since being dropped the 25-year-old has gone on to prove you don’t need to be stick thin to be a success in the industry. One her way out the door she told her bosses where they could stick it…
It seemed to have worked out well for her.
Lawrence has been featured in Maxim and Playboy as well as becoming the face and editor of Runaway Riot – a fashion website for women of all shapes and sizes.
Iskra released a statement about her thoughts on the industry:
“I intend to change the fashion industry by posting ground breaking editorials with beautiful diverse women talking about self care and body confidence, fitness and health – YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR BODY – and I want it to be a conversation let’s build each other up and empower women.”
The fashion industry can be incredibly picky about model sizes. Industry watchers often call out models when they don’t fit certain notions of the ideal body type, and even casting directors tell the beautiful girls to slim down. I don’t think this is right.
How any agency could drop Lawrence is truly baffling to me, but something tells me she’s going to have the last laugh. You go girl.
